Universal prosecutor

Article Abstract:

Baltasar Garzon, the Spanish judge who tried to prosecute former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet for crimes against humanity, is profiled. A Spanish law passed in 1985 established the principle of universal prosecution and gave judges on Garzon's court jurisdiction over human rights crimes.

Afloat on legal seas; Cuban boy's case could restrict immigration agency's authority

Article Abstract:

Issues are discussed regarding the possible asylum hearing of Elian Gonzalez and the precedents in immigration and family law which would result. The case could expand judicial review of when the Immigration and Naturalization Service must hold asylum hearings for unaccompanied children.

A circle kept unbroken; eminent domain saves rare U.S. archaeological site

Article Abstract:

The use of the eminent domain doctrine to save the Florida archeological site known as Miami Circle is discussed. County attorneys found help in the legal battles to preserve Civil War sites.
