The author discusses the marijuana for medicinal use laws passed by several states, with a focus on California's Compassionate Use Act, and the federal opposition to these laws using the Constitution's commerce clause, and how states may be able to overcome federal control.

Although the drug mifepristone should make it easier for women to have abortions, its effectiveness could be reduced by federal and state government anti-abortion actions. Medical means of pregnancy termination should be legally distinct from surgical abortion.
