When working out drug policy, look backward
Article Abstract:
Understanding US drug policy requires a look at history, for the legal and illegal uses of drugs, including heroin and cocaine, have been intertwined for a long time. Keeping the two uses distinct has always been difficult, but the present government attempt to eradicate public consumption of contraband drugs has made doing so harder than ever. Drug use has grown in the 83 years since federal legislation controlling narcotics was adopted, and the suffering of those to whom drugs might provide relief has grown along with it. A zero tolerance policy and harsh enforcement have not resulted in decreases in drug use and drug-associated crime.

Are dietary supplements a food, drug or drag?
Article Abstract:
The Dietary Supplement Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) was to resolve the historical crisis of whether such supplements were a food or a drug. Most importantly, the law allowed supplements new freedom to make label lstatements claiming helath or nutritional benefits if the manufacturers had substantiation for their statements, and these label statements did not trigger the supplements' regulation as drugs.Claims describing the role of a dietary supplement intended "to affect the structure or function in humans" are one of the most controversial.
