Why the Roth IRA is a 'tax break' to avoid
Article Abstract:
The Roth individual retirement account has been the most publicized tax benefit to date. A closer scrutiny of this tax-saving scheme, however, will show that the concept of Roth IRAs are misunderstood and the scheme is arguably overrated. A significant cost is involved in terms of confusion, complexities and inconvenience to generate whatever savings are possible. Tax advantages are ambiguous and frequently non-existent especially when compared with the retention of, and contributions to, a deductible IRA. Further, complicated new guidelines, forms and recordkeeping requirements can be overwhelming in view of the low maximum contribution allowed in Roth IRAs. Thus, taxpayers and their advisors would do well to be aware of the disadvantages inherent in all aspects of Roth IRAs.
