Workshop report: AIDS and stigma: A conceptual framework and research agenda
Article Abstract:
A research workshop was conducted to examine the impact of AIDS-related labeling on the patients and its effects on AIDS epidemic. The research workshop considered the psychosocial aspects of HIV and AIDS infection. It also encouraged AIDS researchers to delve deeper into the nature of AIDS-related stigma so as to yield effective strategies in handling such issues that may adversely affect the use of innovative treatment of the disease.

This article discusses the challenges of designing a new, efficient AIDS surveillance system to monitor the epidemic in the United States. The authors examine several alternatives, such as name-reporting systems, systems of case reports based upon unique identifiers, and a model which provides incidence data bases upon "snapshot estimates."

This article explores the debate surrounding HIV surveillance. The author argues that public health and the AIDS community must move beyond the debate and rethink how to devise the best surveillance model.
