Numbers to the people: regulation, ownership and local number portability
Article Abstract:
A telecommunications study is presented which investigates the implementation of local number portability (LNP) in the promotion of local call competition. The results illustrate that difficulties caused by asymetric information may be avoided by, for example, carriers bearing their own costs.

A matter of connections: OECD telecommunications sector productivity and the role of cellular technology diffusion
Article Abstract:
A study analyzed the effect of the diffusion of cellular technology on the competitiveness of the telecommunication sector for 23 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries from 1980-1995. Findings indicated that cellular technology diffusion exerted a positive, marked influence on the efficiency of the telecommunications business. However, the simultaneous diffusion of both fixed and mobile telephony infrastructures in these OECD nations can exert important overall effects on industry competitiveness.
