Strategic use of communication technology - diffusion processes in networks and environments
Article Abstract:
The concept of strategic use of communication technology (CT) was differentiated from its traditional use. The quality of CT use differs widely among companies, industries and countries. The strategic use of CT is defined as the development of CT characteristics associated with network paradigms and integrative power to achieve a competitive position in the market. An important component of the diffusion of CT is the organization of networks within a users environment. Examination of patterns of CT diffusion should consider environments, communicative patterns, competition and markets.

The frontier of international technology networks: sourcing abroad the most highly tacit capabilities
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the internationalization of technological activity. The analysis was based on information taken from the University of Reading database which pertains to patents granted to the world's largest companies in the US from 1969 to 1995. Results provide empirical evidence that shows that internationalization of activity is likely to be sector-specific even if firms are increasingly dispersing their research and development facilities over wider geographical distances.
