The case for a U.S. Privacy Commissioner: a Canadian commissioner's perspective
Article Abstract:
Issues surrounding the regulation of online privacy and data protection in the US are discussed. The authors argue that privacy oversight should be assigned to a single agency that will set standards over range of business contexts and technologies. Data protection policies of other nations are also discussed.

Regulating the free flow of information: a privacy czar as the ultimate Big Brother

The author contends that the creation of a federal data protection agency in the US may ultimately limit personal liberty by regulating the flow of information. The activities of privacy czars in Canada and the European Union are analyzed.

Article Abstract:
The author contends that the premature establishment of a federal agency aimed at protecting Internet privacy may damage relations between the US and China. The limitations of the Western view of privacy with respect to global regulation of the Internet are outlined.
