Medvedev and Shcherbakov were the two people, as the leading editors for Molodaya Gvardia since early 1970s, who saw to it that scarcely any writers better than them would be published there. A monthly youth magazine dedicated to popular science technology, Technika-molodyozhi that traditionally printed science fiction was connected to the Molodaya Gvardia mafia and Znanine Publishers were among the few big publishing houses that opposed them.

Gods like men: Soviet science fiction and the utopian self
Article Abstract:
Representations of the New Man in Soviet science fiction of the 1960s are discussed with the view of challenging the binary opposition in human/posthuman. It is argued that the subject of Soviet science fiction represents a distinct and unique modality of the self, informed by the ideology of utopian humanism, whose imaginative triumph in Soviet science fiction also, paradoxically, spells its dissolution.
