FAA data offers stories for every newsroom in U.S.
Article Abstract:
The terrorism attack on September 11, 2001, led the reporters to search the database of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enforcement actions to find stories about their local airports. However, the FAA enforcement database was not the only potential resource as reporters used the FAA's airmen directory that provides a listing of most pilots certified by the American government and found basic information about some of the hijackers.

Doing investigations after a hurricane: Deluge of dollars
Article Abstract:
The large-scale damage and the number of mistakes involved in Hurricanes Katrina and Rita make prime ground for interesting business stories, from used car fraud to nursing home malfeasance. A check of past stories along with available investigative sources offers journalists some story ideas for the true cost of the disaster.
