High court aborts search for news leaks: court's intervention in secret probe prompts controversy
Article Abstract:
A reconstituted majority in the Nevada Supreme Court voted to revoke an order that had established a special master to investigate leaks of information regarding an investigation of Washoe County District Judge Jerry Whitehead. The investigation was supposed to be confidential, but a newspaper released a story that the Supreme Court had taken over for the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission. Two of the justices had recused themselves from the probe, but when the remaining justices and two other judges established the special master, the recused justices returned to overturn the order.

Supreme Court recognizes patient-therapist privilege
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court found in Jaffee v. Redmond that communications between a licensed social worker and a client are privileged under federal law. The Court affirmed the ruling of the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and overturned the ruling of the trial court. This decision is the first to extend the privilege against disclosure of confidential communications to therapists in federal court. The Court reasoned that confidentiality is conducive to developing trust between patient and therapist.
