L.A. considers billing media for court costs: county seeks to recoup costs of sequestration, extra security
Article Abstract:
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors passed a measure to suggest that O.J. Simpson trial Superior Court Judge Lance Ito require that broadcasters pay an access fee to cover the additional costs incurred by the county because of the press coverage of the trial. Representatives of the press opposed the measure calling is violative of the First Amendment. Ito ruled that only specific expenses incurred, such as additional electricity expenses, could be imposed on the press. Some lawmakers had suggested that the cost of sequestration and crowd control was the press' responsibility.

Ban on copying CNN stands pending review
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit has overturned an injunction against Video Monitoring Services Inc (VMS), which prevented the company from providing copies of Cable News Network (CNN) program segments to clients. CNN had argued that VMS was infringing on CNN's copyrights, but the court ruled that the injunction was too restrictive, since most of the segments VMS copies are commercial or works copyrighted by other than CNN.
