Article Abstract:
The 104th US Congress' relationship with the press has been mixed with new Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich making proceedings more accessible but lashing out against press scrutiny. Issues of concern to the press considered by Congress in 1995 include the funding of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, telecommunications reforms and deregulation, freedom of information laws, standards for electronic government information, restrictions on videotaping courtroom proceedings and promotion of free speech internationally.

Energy Department hired consultants to rank reporters
Article Abstract:
Disclosure of the fact that the US Department of Energy hired the consulting firm CARMA International to develop a study of media coverage of the Department that included favorability ratings has sparked criticism from Congress, Pres. Clinton and the press. Energy Secretary Hazel O'Leary stated that the study was intended to improve public relations and not to develop an enemies list. The Clinton Administration ordered O'Leary to reimburse the Treasury for the cost of the study from her office account.
