Ambivalent speculations: America as England's future in 'The Way We Live Now'

Article Abstract:

The risk of speculation to individuals as well as to the national character is highlighted in Trollope's novel 'The Way We Live Now' in which he draws a connection between economic and moral behaviors. But Trollope also acknowledges the benefits of speculation to economy and nation through his portrayal of Americans and America, where he maintains speculators can succeed, and thus cedes the future to the Americans while preserving English values.

Registration

Article Abstract:

People register and vote in more than one state, as election officials do not check whether new registrants are already registered in another state. It is suggested that until there is a national voter registration file with a unique identifier assigned to everyone, this huge vulnerability to error and abuse will remain intact.
