Nativity and Magi plays in Renaissance Florence
Article Abstract:
Richard Trexler's tentative checklist of theatrical performances in fourteenth and fifteenth-century Florence, Italy shows two kinds of Christmas dramas such as Nativity and Magi plays. The references to Nativity and Magi plays in Richard Trexler's checklist are used as a beginning point for a study of plays on the Christmas story staged in fifteenth and sixteenth century Florence. The purpose is also to have an understanding of their various contexts and a thorough archival search for documentation on early Florentine theater.

Sacred blood and the late medieval stage
Article Abstract:
Late medieval drama was one of the most significant visual arts of the Middle Ages, and the appearance of blood in the Crucifixion required a devout response from the audience. These plays were essentially untrue since the actors portraying Christ or martyrs were only pretending to bleed. Yet the medieval audiences invariably saw this blood as sacred rather than the impure result of violence.
