Privacy Act record restriction limited by court
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit affirmed the lower court's decision in MacArthur Foundation v. FBI finding that the FBI could retain files on MacArthur Foundation president Lance Lindblom since the files were opened pursuant to a legitimate law enforcement activity. Lindblom argued that continued retention of the files violated the Privacy Act and the right of association. Right of association claims were rejected because Lindblom failed to demonstrate any resultant harm, and the Court found that the FBI could retain the files after the investigation was completed.

Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled in Campbell v. British writer James Campbell submitted the request while researching a biography of Baldwin, whose activities were monitored extensively by the FBI during the J. Edgar Hoover era.
