Legislators take aim at shipbuilding loans
Article Abstract:
The United States Maritime Administration?s Title XI Ship Loan Guarantee Program is being considered for overhaul by the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Commercial loans worth over $4.3 billion have been provided to United States shipbuilders since 1993; however, loan defaults have recently increased and more firms receiving these loan guarantees have filed for bankruptcy protection.
