The terracotta flowerpot
Article Abstract:
The origins of the terracotta flowerport go back as far as 2000BC, and subsequent civilizations grew ornamental plants in terracotta pots. Their means of drainage has remained largely unchanged, although some Victorian pots featured raised drainage holes. The lines of the pots have also been adapted to suit the plant they were intended for, and they are currently manufactured using moulds, mainly in Spain and Italy. They are being largely superseded by plastic pots, which offer benefits for some plants.
