A study of two Philippine national broadsheets' policies, content, and their readers' attitudes toward the US military bases
Article Abstract:
A readers survey of two Philippine newspapers was conducted to determine the influence of media in shaping public opinion on major issues of national interests. The sample consisted of fifty readers of each of the newspapers namely, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Manila Bulletin. Findings show that readers tended to patronize newspapers which expressed views or opinions similar to their own. Majority of Manila Bulletin readers were in favor of the US military bases while those of the Philippine Daily Inquirer were mostly anti-US military bases.
