Article Abstract:

The BBC believes that the issue of how independent television programme production companies will work with its in-house production departments has now been clarified. The BBC Broadcast directorate will be responsible for contracting and managing independent production companies, while existing relationships between independent firms and in-house producers will be encouraged. The Independent Commissioning Group will give independent firms direct access to BBC controllers, and this may make working with BBC Production less attractive.

End of the troubles

Article Abstract:

The television production industry in Northern Ireland has experienced difficulties over recent years. However, both BBC Northern Ireland and independent production companies are set to see improved fortunes soon. Industry observers point to clear signs of growth, such as Ulster ITV franchisee UTV becoming part of the TV3 consortium, and believe that more production companies will begin to work on an all-Ireland basis.
