Alternative things considered: a political economic analysis of labour processers and relations at a Honolulu alternative newspaper

Article Abstract:

The parameters of an alternative newspaper organization Hawaii, in Honolulu are presented from the perspective of those who work there. The enabling and constructing conditions of employment at the Honolulu Weekly is focused and the dilemma of alternative news work, news organizations, their institutional arrangements and dominant societal arrangement are described.

Metro, info, haro! Fierce reactions to regime competition in the French newspaper industry

Article Abstract:

An analytical approach on the opposition faced by foreign competitors for introducing free daily newspapers into France, is presented. The implications of the 'Metro crisis' of 2002 that represent a significant event in the history of the French newspaper industry are highlighted.

Constructing perfect women: the portrayal of female officials in Hong Kong newspapers

Article Abstract:

The way in which women officials are constructed as 'perfect women' in two Hong Kong newspapers is explained. The image-construction process in relation to the officials' public performance in terms of a conceptual framework is discussed.
