An audience with ... LWT

Article Abstract:

London Weekend Television (LWT) initially broadcast a full sports programme on Saturday afternoons but it was discontinued after fierce competition with the British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd (BBC). LWT was well-known for its production of several highly rated comedy shows but in latter years it has been less successful. LWT's light entertainment schedule for Saturday night, during the 1980s, often had a larger audience than the BBC. Drama programmes were given a boost during the mid 1980s resulting in some well regarded productions. LWT has been operating since 1968.

Suite talk

Article Abstract:

The UK's television programme production companies are currently in a relatively strong position. The sector has successfully faced up to many different challenges, including the shift from analogue to digital technologies and the introduction of new video formats, and new companies are still being created. There is particular potential for companies which offer added value and which develop new delivery solutions.
