C4 caught out?
Article Abstract:
There is concern Channel 4 Television Co (C4) will be forced to change the times of some of its popular programmes to make way for Test cricket. Some observers have pointed out C4 may gain a new type of audience by broadcasting cricket whilst C4 executives claim audience numbers are unlikely to vary. Channel 4 has spent 12.5 million pounds sterling a year on purchasing the rights to broadcast domestic Test cricket and will need to spend a further 3.25 million pounds sterling on promoting the programs. It is estimated advertisers will pay about 10 million pounds sterling.

A new face emerges for Auntie
Article Abstract:
The finer details of the major restructuring of the British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd. (BBC) announced on June 7 1996 have been slow to emerge. The changes were brought about by the need to make a 15% saving through efficiency measures over the following five years. Although the structure based on six directorates was announced and an implementation date of the 1st April 1997 given staff are still waiting to hear how the changes are going to be implemented. Of particular interest are the workings of the two major operations BBC Broadcast and BBC Production.

A clean break?
Article Abstract:
Independent television production companies in the UK are disappointed that the division between commissioning and production at British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd. (BBC) is unclear and fewer new opportunities may be provided than anticipated. The BBC is being restructured by BBC Director General John Birt. The role of Alan Yentob, director of programmes in BBC Production, might particularly be seen as a compromise for the BBC as it appears to straddle both functions. Other structures also indicate the lack of a clear division between the two functions.
