US intervention in the Middle East builds on a problematic assumption that western technology and knowledge will transform the region into modern, democratic nation-states. Recent development intervention using communication technologies in terms of academic literature on communicating and transition in the Middle East is considered and critiqued.

US foreign correspondents: Changes and continuity at the turn of the century

The findings from a comprehensive survey of US foreign correspondents conducted in 2001 are reported. Findings show that some trends such as Eurocentrism, relatively high degrees of education and the like, continue.
