Birmingham's young demographic and ethnic mix has been conducive to creativity in cutting-edge fields such as digital media. Digital content production and distribution companies have emerged in the region, as well as indie digital production companies. The growth of the digital media sector within the UK television broadcasting industry in Birmingham is discussed.

Journalists are generally unaware of how to react in war zones. They chase intriguing stories from these zones, and often risk their lives in crossfire or land in a kidnap or hostage situation. This has prompted the television broadcasting companies to train these journalists on hostile environments and dangerous situations.
