Fishing down coastal food webs in the Gulf of California

Article Abstract:

Coastal fisheries in the Gulf of California have shifted over time from large predatory fishes to small species down in the food web, which has not only impacted target species but also has caused community-wide consequences. The results suggest that coastal fisheries are unsustainable and their management needs to be reevaluated with sound regulatory measures to prevent further degradation of coastal food webs and the concurrent inefficiency of artisanal fishing.

Retrospective sampling: A planning tool for field programs

Article Abstract:

Retrospective sampling can help fishery scientist improve the cost-effectiveness of field sampling programs. In retrospect, a reduced sampling effort in each stream would have created an opportunity to examine more than three streams with the same sampling effort, and may have achieved a better balance between sample size and habitat coverage.

A conceptual framework for assessing impacts of roads on aquatic biota

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive conceptual framework for considering impacts of roads on aquatic biota is presented. This framework was applied to a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for a proposed interstate highway to illustrate which road impacts are typically ignored in such assessments and how the framework can be used to enhance assessments.
