From heroic objectivity to the news stream: the Newseum's strategies for relegitimizing journalism in the Information Age
Article Abstract:
The growing erosion of the American public's trust in the mass media has prompted the Freedom Forum to establish the first interactive museum of news. Newseum, located at Arlington, VA, features state-of-the-art spectacle and historical exhibits in a shopping-mall setting. Its founders recognize that, in today's information-saturated times, mass media's role in society must be legitimized. It must be able to reclaim its professional authority by demonstrating objectivity and fairness in news reporting.
