Article Abstract:

More than 6,000 jobs are likely to be axed at BBC following an internal review launched by Mark Thompson. BBC is to streamline production and commissioning and scale down its own productions by more than 50%. Outsourcing will go up as well as productions by indies. The move to Manchester will displace more than 1500 staff from London. The budgetary review led by Paul Kirby aims to save [pounds sterling]2 billion over the next two-three years, by reducing payments to suppliers, reducing staff costs and pruning staff costs drastically.
