'Propaganda and Democracy.'
Article Abstract:
Author J. Michael Sproule presents a multi-pronged approach to the study of the associations between propaganda and communication research in his book 'Propaganda and Democracy.' Propaganda literature had been isolated from the muckraking genre through readers' enhancement of the critical thinking skills. Sproule veers away from positioning propaganda with the extreme viewpoints of a social ill to an unquestionable social good. He makes use of the schools of thought derived from progressive critics, practitioners, polemics, social science, and critical thinkers as analytical approaches.

By way of a long and circuitous route: 'Propaganda and Democracy' and/as a lesson in effective history
Article Abstract:
Author J. Michael Sproule made the praiseworthy attempt of distinguishing between the right to persuade and the people's right to choose freely. In his book 'Propaganda and Democracy: The American Experience of Media and Mass Persuasion' Sproule failed to attain his goal as he had consciously or unconsciously neglected to define his notion of democracy from a historical vantage point. He even seemed to treat propaganda and democracy as similar concepts when the former is actually a historical phenomenon rather than an ideology.

'Propaganda and Democracy.'
Article Abstract:
Author J. Michael Sproule attempted to unravel the links between propaganda and citizen-initiated democracy in his book 'Propaganda and Democracy.' He aimed to examine mass media trends concerning information dissemination and persuasion of the public. Though not explicitly stated in the book, he views the issue from the vantage point of liberalist philosophy and male-oriented narrations of history. This approach renders women's conceptions of this issue as virtually non-existent.
