Talking about a revolution?
Article Abstract:
UK broadcasting company ITV launched a programming manifesto in January 1998 to improve ratings and programme quality. The authors of the manifesto are Programme Director David Liddiment and Chief Executive Richard Eyre. ITV plans to increase the number of documentary serials and light entertainment programmes. Plans to concentrate on the major sporting events will focus ITV's sports brand. Both Liddiment and Eyre hope to encourage new talent by providing vehicles for exposure, especially in the comedy and drama sections.

Expanding the language of photographs
Article Abstract:
Technology allows digital manipulation of pictures. Photographs can be reworked using computers to make uninteresting photos come to life as in the photos of tennis stars Tonya Harding, Nancy Kerrigan and OJ Simpson. Responsible journalists are armed with a powerful new tool allowing readers to peek into the future and even the past. Digitally modified photos should not be used for deceiving and should be labelled properly. The language of photojournalism will grow, allowing journalists to shape the meanings of photos.

Talking (fairly) about the world - a reprise on journalistic language
Article Abstract:
Many of the accusations levelled against journalistic language for being openly sexist have been countered with insinuations of over sensitivity, irreverence towards the English language, and the fact that language reflects reality in a society. The callous use of masculine pronouns, the over simplification of crimes against women, the reference to women only in relation to men, and the explicit use of stereotypes will persist unless journalists acknowledge and act on their mistakes.
