The emergence of a new information infrastructure should be a primary concern of communication scholars. Essentially, modern means of communication and information exchange ought to be discussed in communication studies. This means that communication studies will be influential in the formulation and implementation of communication policies.

Discursive irony and subaltern perspectives are discussed, with a focus on critical and creative cultural work in relation to the notion of difference. Topics include African American cultural production, the ideal of critical self-reflexivity, and the desire for integration in relation to the postmodern proliferation of difference.
