The revolt of the Communist journalist: East Germany
Article Abstract:
The press was not replaced in East Germany during the fall of the former German Democratic Republic. Instead, the press renounced communism. The post-Communist press is now controlled in Bonn, and journalists miss the heady period in the autumn of 1989 when true freedom of the press reigned. The agency with the mandate of privatizing East German concerns, Treuhand, transferred the ownership of the former Communist newspapers to conservative West German media operators. East Germany was its own country for so long that people now feel they are forced to become West Germans.

He liked to move in show-business circles, and this way of life provided him with many amusing anecdotes for his customers.
