The slide towards decentralization: clock and computer
Article Abstract:
The actual process by which a centralized system transforms into a decentralized one is the process at a social level, as opposed to organizational level and is examined by studying two 'defining' technologies of the early and late stages of industrialization-clock and computers. The two technologies are looked as artifacts and then at the cultural changes that accompanied them.
