An economic analysis of delayed primary school enrollment in a low income country: the role of early childhood nutrition
Article Abstract:
The reasons behind delays in the primary school enrollment of destitute children are investigated. The delays contradict human capital theory predictions that education will start as early as possible. The delays were attributed to various reasons. However, the study focused on early childhood malnutrition as a possible cause for delayed enrollment. The hypotheses were tested via data gathered on Ghana. Results show that early childhood malnutrition was responsible for delayed enrollment.
