Are OLS estimates of the return to schooling biased downward? Another look
Article Abstract:
The controversy on the alleged bias in ordinary least squares (OLS) measures of the economic returns of education is examined. There are concerns that the factor of individual ability is not considered in human-capital measurements. Test scores from the National Longitudinal Survey Youth Cohort on a sample of men and women from 17 to 22 years old in 1979 were analyzed. It was concluded that OLS measurements of the standard log wage equation presented reasonable estimates of the returns of education.

Do hostile takeovers reduce extramarginal wage payments?
Article Abstract:
An empirical analysis is done to study the relationship between hostile takeovers and extramarginal wage payments. Employer-specific wage differentials and steeper-than-average seniority-wage profiles are the two extramarginal wage payments being examined. Hostile take-overs reduce extramarginal wage payments to tenured workers by reducing senior-worker employment and flattening wage-seniority.

Wage declines among older men
Article Abstract:
Evidence on whether the real wages of older men diminish with age are investigated. Longitudinal estimates of age-wage profiles show that wage declines in set for workers aged 60. A significant portion of the declines is apparently caused by interactions with the Social Security system. Workers are particularly found to decrease their wages when they start receiving benefits.
