Beyond diffusion: an affordability model of the growth of new consumer durables
Article Abstract:
An affordability model for explaining the growth of new consumer durables is presented and compared against the more popular Bass diffusion model. The alternate model is based on affordability and evaluation results show that the alternate model is slightly inferior in terms of fit but is superior to the Bass diffussion model in terms of parameter stability, parameter validity and forecasting ability.

Order forecasts, retail sales, and the marketing mix for consumer durables
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the problem of forecasting ongoing factory orders reveals that a good data marketing warehouse and the use of some rigorous statistical models can help reduce the 'bullwhip effect' that limits predictability. The study reveals that marketing and forecasting functions should be integrated in order for market-response models to be used in a proactive manner.
