Campaign contributions and congressional voting: does the timing of contributions matter?
Article Abstract:
Campaign contributions were studied over different periods to determine the cumulative effect and the significance of timing on legislative voting behavior. The study analyzed ten roll call votes on farm commodity price supports and quotas for the years 1981 and 1985. A majority of estimated contribution coefficients were found to be statistically significant. Results show that campaign contributions played an important role in the victory of farm interests. The timing of contributions were also essential in garnering votes.
