Is the market well defined in bank merger and acquisition analysis?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the geographic markets for banking services and to determine whether the definition of banking 'product' to include all services is too encompassing. The study develops a rational distributed lag model to predict bank pricing behavior. The model integrates dummy variables to evaluate prices across geographic markets. Results show that small six-month certificates of deposit must be considered as a distinct banking service.

The price-concentration relationship in banking: a reply
Article Abstract:
William E. Jackson III's analysis and comment is extended to make an assessment of the relationship between the Money Market Deposit Account and concentration. It is shown that the price-concentration relationship for retail deposit rates is negative and that the price-concentration relationship changes over time.
