A SIMULATION MODEL OF FIRM BEHAVIOR THAT INCORPORATES MARKET FEATURES IS DEVELOPED. THE EFFECTS OF RANDOMLY DISTRIBUTED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES ARE ANALYZED. IMPLICATIONS IN TERMS OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MARKET STRUCTURE AND PROFITABILITY ARE DISCUSSED, SUGGESTIONS FOR FURTHER RESEARCH ARE PROVIDED.

THE AUTHORS DISCUSS THE ESTIMATION OF PRODUCTION FUNCTIONS INCLUDING REAL CASH BALANCES IN TERMS OF SPECIFICATION ERRORS. TIME SERIES DATA AND REGRESSION TECHNIQUES ARE EMPLOYED. RESULTS INDICATE THE VALIDITY OF THE TWO-FACTOR CES PRODUCTION FUNCTION. ALTERATIONS TO THIS FUNCTION USUALLY LEADS TO ERRORS.
