The internal distribution of union rents: an empirical test of the voting power model
Article Abstract:
A union rent sharing model is used to analyze voting behavior in labor unions and thus, describe rent distribution policies implied by union wages. The study tests the proposition that skill group coalitions in the pursuit ofself-interest result in skewed distribution policies. The results suggest that no such relationship exists; that is, egalitarian policies are no less likely to result from the voting decisions of low-skilled majorities than high-skilled majorities.

The effect of collective bargaining legislation on strikes and wages
Article Abstract:
An analysis of data on contract negotiations from large, private sector firms in Canada reveals the significant influence of labor policy on strikes and wages. The study also indicated that conciliation policies have been ineffective in reducing the cost of strikes. The results suggest that general contract reopener provisions offers more benefits to both employers and labor unions by lowering the cost of negotiations without affecting the outcome of wage settlements.

The impact of real rents and wages on household formation
Article Abstract:
The economic factors involved in deciding whether or not to stay at home with parents, live singly or with a group are described. Some 2,573 people in their 20s are surveyed to show that future wages and housing costs are key factors in household formation. The likelihood of forming a household is measured via the impact on rental costs of spatial variations. The demographic aspects of household formation are also examined and expanded.
