AIP systems for submarines compared and assessed

Article Abstract:

The use of air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems that is essential for modern non-nuclear submarine operations has vastly extended their range of possible mission scenarios of the submarine and decreases the risk of being detected by the opponent. A short description on four AIP system that have oxygen stored in liquid form at room temperature below 100K in similar super-insulated double-walled tanks, only differing in the strong pressure is presented.

Submarine recovery in case of flooding

Article Abstract:

SSPA has carried out simulations of what actually happens when water is flooding in a submarine to enhance the preparedness for handling such a terrible situation, and to increase the possibility of surviving such a situation. Two of the phenomenon that was identified as taking place during the flooding procedure is, the water ingress/egress mechanism and the internal motion of the accumulated water, including its interaction with the motion of the vessel.
