Fighting in Afghanistan set to resume

Article Abstract:

The lengthy civil war in Afghanistan is expected to continue, after both the Taliban and the Northern Alliance forces have used the winter and early spring months for strenghtening their positions. The Taliban has captured most of the country, with the exception of the mountainous area of northeast Badakhshan province.

Foreign fighters step up activity in Afghan civil war

Article Abstract:

The success of the Taliban in Afghanistan has attracted numerous foreign Muslim volunteers who have entered the country to join in the fight against the United Front forces. Volunteers have come from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and other Central Asian countries.

Afghanistan: prospects for war and peace in a shattered land

Article Abstract:

Afghanistan, in the summer of 2001, is a country still engaged in an eight-year civil war between the Taliban and the United Front forces. The Taliban have occupied most of the country, and the United Front continues a rear-guard action, hoping for a political settlement.
