Lauris Norstad, who was a principal architect of the modern US national defense establishment, played an indispensable role in the restructuring or the 1947 National Security Act and formation of the independent Air Force. Lauris Norstad was a key figure in World War II air operations, defense reorganization, and creation of the Air Force, yet his contributions are not well known.
