Armoured vehicles in the Middle East: a bleak picture
Article Abstract:
Arab states desiring to modernize their military forces are, ironically, experiencing funding difficulties. This is attributed largely because of the impact of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, resulting in the need to pay for coalition forces and increased national defense expenditures that have considerably drained regional financial resources. Funding constraints have hampered acquisitions of battle tanks in the Gulf States and the market for tanks in this region is entering a quiet period.

'Houston, we have a problem!'
Article Abstract:
The Post-Wall era has led to dramatic reductions in the production of tanks in the world. Despite claims by some politicians that the conventional tank is no longer needed in preserving the peace, however, events such as those in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, and in other remote areas of the world have pointed out the necessity for maintaining an armored presence. The problem that needs to be addressed is maintaining a leading- edge level of technology without actively manufacturing the weapons.

The Wer'wolf doen't mine
Article Abstract:
Military International Ltd (Mil) of Canada has delivered 20 of a first batch of 40 Wer'wolf armored personnel carriers (APC) on Aug 26, 2000, to the Namibian Army. The mine-proof APC, a descendant of the Wolf APC, is rated to be capable of defeating one triple TNT mine as well as eight seven-kilogram anti-tank blasts. Mil reports that the APC, which weighs nearly 10 tons when empty, offers better stability because of a lower center of gravity.
