Australia issues reconnaissance helicopter RFP
Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Army has set an August 1998 deadline on bids for its new armed reconnaissance helicopter program dubbed Project AIR 87. These vehicles will replace the older gunship helicopter UH-1H Iroquois and scout helicopter Bell 206B-1 Kiowa used by the Army. Successful bidders will provide self-protection equipment, weapons, and sensors as well. The Australian Army will try to get financing from the Australian Cabinet in 1998. Afterwards, the Army will produce a roster of bidders who will get a request for tender in 1999. The Army is expecting selection to be completed by 2000. Initial delivery is scheduled in 2003.
