Ethnic violence threatens Nigeria's nascent democracy

Article Abstract:

Increasing incidents of ethnic and religious violence in Nigeria have been highlighted with Nigerian Pres Olusegun Obasanjo's threat to declare a state of emergency in Lagos. Escalating incidents of violence have been primarily attributed to an increasing wave of ethnic nationalism across the country. This development is considered a real threat Nigeria's newly installed democracy. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups and a population of 110 million.

Suspicions and rivalries threaten Sierra Leone peace

Article Abstract:

There is hope that the nine-year civil war in Sierra Leone may be coming to an end, as a cease-fire agreement is signed by the government and rebel troops. However, friction between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, may worsen the situation.

Nigeria is gaining an international reputation as a crime center. The criminal activity is widespread, and includes drug trafficking, bank fraud, credit-card fraud, and 'advance fee' fraud.
