Colombian report shows FARC is world's richest insurgent group

Article Abstract:

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia's (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC)) annual income allows it support a guerrilla army four times its current size, equipped with the best weaponry the international arms black market has to offer. The FARC's defeat remains a distant prospect due to its access to such vast financial resources, which are obtained from drug trade, kidnapping and extortion.

FARC commander captured in Ecuador

Ricardo Ovidio Palmera Pineda alias Simon Trinidad, senior commander in the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia was arrested in Ecuador on 2 January by United States intelligence agencies. Trinidad faces some 50 charges ranging from kidnapping to murder.
