Challenges for UN Forces in East Timor

Article Abstract:

The United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor, the UN mission that will replace the International Forces in East Timor, will face a number of challenges when it begins its peacekeeping mission prior to democratic elections in the country. Chief among the problems will be in securing the 80km-long border between East and West Timor at a time when the monsoon season is coming, a situation that calls for more personnel and equipment that can better perform their assigned tasks.
