Investment in missile defense

Article Abstract:

The Strategic Defense Initiative Organization and its successor, the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, spent approximately $61 billion on the development of technologies and systems for all types of ballistic missile defense during 1985-1999. Funds allocated, in terms of constant FY 2001 dollars, included $22 billion toward National Missile Defense programs, $17 billion toward Theater Missile Defense programs and $22 billion toward support technology programs.

The defense budget at a glance

Article Abstract:

The Bush administration has submitted its defense budget for Fiscal Year 2002. The $328.9 billion budget reflects the continuation of steady increases, but also reflects a continued decrease in the percentage of the gross domestic product.
