The Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani was selected as the new president of Iraq on 7 April 2005 and he has taken the oath of office in Baghdad, pledging to create a government that represented Iraq's diverse population. He has nominated Sunni Muslim Ibrahim al-Jaafari as prime minister, the head of the Iraqi government.

Article Abstract:
Presidential elections took place in Afghanistan on 9th October 2004 was considered as a landmark event since nearly 10.5 million Afghans registered to vote. The event took place in relative security and without violence and interim President Hamid Karzai was predicted to win by large margin.
